I met Lisa while I was getting my Masters in Fine Arts. Although our art aesthetics and styles are quite the opposite our core values are one in the same. The two of us have been collaborating on a project called Art is Moving for since January of 2008. We want the whole world to make art!

In the last 2 1/2 years Lisa and I have had some great moments in art together. During one of our meetings we came up with the mantra, Practice Random Acts of Art. That is what hope to encourage through our collaboration and our own artwork.

Mustard is an overlooked color. I love the way it makes me think of a meadow just at the edge of summertime or right before the spring rain starts to kick in. The vast color you see driving in and around the highways and byways of central California. Those yellow fields of forever.

Since the mustard color is so natural feeling, I decided to pair it with a crazy red, white, and blue silk tie handle. It adds just enough nonsense to make it extra special.

Pink and Brown are such great friends, aren’t they?  They just flow together so well.  I love this placemat and the textured pink and brown going in and out, and up and over each other to make such a wonderful composition of color.  When you open the bag  you’ll find more shades of brown and a completely different style and aesthetic.  The organic feel of the inside makes a great companion to the geometric lines on the outside of this upcycled clutch purse.

What a combination of fun, funky, and function this upcycled purse is.  I folded a pillowcase in half and sewed the sides together.  What you get is a purse with a large zipper pocket included!  I also added a polka dot, easy access pocket to the front of the bag for both aesthetics and function.  Stick your keys in there so you don’t lose them or store your phone while you’re waiting for an important call.  The silk tie handle can be used across your chest or sit right on your shoulder.  Users choice!

Lavender is my favorite color and, in fact, my favorite smell.  This piece is about combining function and aesthetic without compromising either.  It’s large enough to carry all that you need in a day, but won’t take over your body.  The pillowcase that has been upcycled into the purse has a nice soft texture to it.  It’s elegant, but funky at the same time.   I love putting two ideas/colors/concepts/designs together that don’t seem like they would work, but do!

Everyone needs a bag that can be stuffed to the brim.  They are great for those days you’re in a hurry or when you’re off to somewhere and don’t know what to expect.  Everyone of us is guilty of over packing, even when we are only going on a day trip.  This bag let’s you get away with it without feeling too bulky or boring.

The texture of the leaf like pattern fits so well with the ribbed tank top that has been used for the two handles.  There’s a zipper at the top because I have a feeling this bag will often be full or used with the intention of being filled.  The warm autumn colors through out the piece give me calm and remind me of my favorite season.

This is what I would call an “everyday” purse.  It is something you can rely on day in and day out.  It’s comfortable and just big enough to carry all that you usually need to go to and fro.  The handle is long enough to go across your chest so you take this purse on long adventures and not worry about your shoulders killing you at the end.

The soft texture and cream color of the handle goes so well with the tiny floral pattern on the purse.  The words that pop into my head are sweet, soft, and summertime.  The sweet and soft are easy to understand, but where does the word summertime fit in?  Maybe it reminds me of a time when summer was a totally different feeling than the rest of the year.  When I didn’t have school and road my bike to the swimming pool and spent most of my days running around feeling free.  Maybe that’s what it is.
